Leathercrafting Workshops

February 5, 2023 by Spencer Tetrault

The time is here!

2019, upon making the decision to move our workshop from our home based operation to a commercial space in our downtown area, we executed a massive business plan of goals. This list of goals and future ideas was created to aide in our transition of home based “side hustle”, to full time entrepreneurs. Naturally as we navigated these ideas and concepts, some of them where obviously longer planned goals, some shorter, and some well, let’s just say very ambitious.

When we opened our retail store in October of 2021 in Waynesville, NC., our initial goal was to open the shop, and operate with this newly added element of a brick and mortar. One of our local publications wrote a piece on our story, and shared with the community one of our long term goals. Initially earmarked to kick off in winter of 2022 to allow a focus on locals getting first access, our workload, and capacity for anything other than core operations quickly halted that idea.

While our initial timeline didn’t pan out, there was definitely a silver lining. This “delay” gave us a full year to develop, plan, and work on relationships to make these gatherings more than just an evening out. It also has allowed us to fully commit to that focus of offering these courses first to our local community during the winter months, when things are a little quieter around our incredible mountain town.

So, here we are eagerly pushing forward, making our final check marks, dotting our I’s and crossing our T’s getting ready to enter this next chapter. To say we are excited would be an understatement, and the feedback we’ve received as we have started to market locally has been astounding.

To not leave you totally hanging as to what exactly we’ve already accomplished towards these leather crafting classes kicking off, below you will find a quick list of the top goals that will give you some insight into whats coming your way!

-Hired 1 team member to carry out event planning/logistics for all event related activities(Welcome to the team Ashley)

-Obtained ABC License as a private bar for in person sales and consumption of beer, wine, and mixed beverages

-Executed legal/liability documents

-Developed and created core curriculum(s) for various class types

-Made relationships with local food trucks and catering vendors to offer all inclusive corporate/private gatherings

-Website calendar, class registration, and an in-depth FAQ’s section

-Obtained class sponsorship for provided tool kits(further to come on this!)

Within the next two months, these courses will fully kick off, and we hope to see you around the workbench!

Ashley – I pull together neighbors from the Walnut Cove Community who like to explore local businesses and do fun things. I have been watching your business activities with interest and am interested in pulling together a private class when you are up and running. Can you give me an idea of timing and class size so I can start lining up ladies? Also, Will classes be week nights or during the day or just weekends? Thanks!

Mitzi, thank you for reaching out. This exact scenario is one of the reasons we’ve been so excited about getting these courses put together. Hosting individuals or groups will add such a fun and unique spin to each class as camaraderie is sure to make for lots of laughs! Ashley got back to you via email in regards to your questions!

We look forward to seeing you around the workbench soon!

I am just reading about the classes that are about to “kick off”. Please send me info on this because I was just able to get a group of 6 together for a cheese making class and I just know we would love to do this, too. I am the “crazy snake skin woman” so it might be appropriate for me yo learn more about the properties and means by which you work. Thanks in advance. Trudy
